Jessica Babé
Jessica Babé
Jessica uses vibrant colors and shifting perspective to create paintings and drawings of seemingly familiar yet, unknown lands. With abstract gestures and representational impulses her paintings explore how visual language can create a relationship between certainty and imagination, facts and memory.
Jessica’s works grow from the psychological of the interior, projected onto an external natural setting. She builds abstraction and the rhythm of these not-so-far-away places using both personal experiences, observations of everyday landscapes and the movement of the brush itself. Jessica is curious about the intersections of painting and drawing, finished and unfinished in the context of contemporary painting.
Jessica studied studio arts in Barcelona, Spain and New York City. She received her B.F.A with a concentration in painting from Hunter College, NYC. During this time Jessica was awarded the prestigious Kossak Painting Fellowship. Jessica has participated in residencies and exhibited regionally and internationally. Jessica currently resides in Manhattan, New York, with her husband, daughter and beloved dog LuLu.
